Custom Formalities


Customs:
At the arrival in the Tribhuvan International Airport ( Sano Gaucharan), all luggages must be declared clear in custom department. Dutiable goods are checked by Red Channel and other non-dutiable items are proceeded through the Green Channel for the guick clearance.

Export:
Department of Archeology National Archive Building is the only place for getting special certification whenever the antique goods are to be exported. Some antiques which is more than 100 years old eg. pantings, thankas, images, statues, manuscripts that are valued for culture and religious reasons. Cultural heritage valuables are strictly prohibited to purchase and carry in foriegn countries. Import:
Visitors are allowed to bring some electronic goods like camera, laptop computer, movie and still camera, portable music system, binocular on condition to take them back with the visitors.Duty free items are also permitted to bring eg. cigarette (200pcs), or cigar (50pcs) distilled liquor (1.15 litre bottle, and film (15 rolls).

The Standard Time of Nepal is five hours 45 minutes ahead of GMT.

Business Hours Around The Valley

In Kathmandu valley as well as outside the valley, government offices are open from Sunday through Thursday starting at 9 a.m to 5 p.m. and On Fridays open till 3 p.m. Most business offices are open from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. from Sunday through Friday. Banks are open from Sunday through Friday from 10 a.m to 3:30 p.m but most of the banks open until 12 p.m only on Fridays. Embassies and international organisations are open on Mondays through Friday from 9 a.m to 5 p.m.Most departmental stores and shops are open from10 a.m to 8 p.m. from Sunday to friday, but some stores are open on Saterdays too.

Holidays
In twelve months there are several festival holidays each may lie within a month. Government holidays also followed by banks too. And business sectors follow only on major holidays.
